Detection of abnormal prion protein, the suspected causative agent of chronic wasting disease (CWD), by ELISA. This test is for one sample type, either the retropharyngeal lymph nodes OR obex.
Specimen
Fresh or frozen retropharyngeal lymph node and/or obex
Detection of abnormal prion protein, the suspected causative agent of chronic wasting disease (CWD), by ELISA. This test is for both the retropharyngeal lymph node AND obex.
Specimen
Fresh or frozen retropharyngeal lymph node and/or obex
Detection of abnormal prion protein, the suspected causative agent of chronic wasting disease, in either antemortem samples (biopsies of retropharyngeal lymph node, tonsil, or rectal wall), or postmortem samples (retropharyngeal lymph node or obex) by immunohistochemical staining.
Specimen
Antemortem: biopsy of the retropharyngeal lymph node, tonsils, or rectal wall in 10% neutral buffered formalin (NBF).
Postmortem: one of the following: retropharyngeal lymph node, obex, or entire brain in 10% neutral buffered formalin (NBF). Entire head also accepted.
Typing of Clostridium perfringens isolates (A, B, C, D, or E) by identifying toxin genes (alpha, cpa; beta, cpb, epsilon, etx; iota, ia) as well as genes for beta 2 toxin (cpb2) and enterotoxin (cpe) by real time PCR.
Measurement of cobalt by inductively-coupled plasma/mass spectrometry. A $10.75 sample preparation fee will be added to tissue and feed specimens.
Specimen
One or more of the following:
1 mL serum or plasma
5 g fresh liver
50 mg fresh liver biopsy (at least 3 Tru-Cut samples, no fluid added)
500 g feed
For birds, 0.3 mL serum or plasma is adequate.
Blood, serum, and urine samples are tested on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with a turnaround time of 7 days. Tissue and feed samples are tested on Mondays and Thursdays with a turnaround time of 10 days.
