Due to the potential health risk to TVMDL personnel, we do not perform testing on any specimen derived from primate species, including lemurs. The only exception to this policy is that testing of formalin-fixed tissue may be performed.
All samples and accompanying documentation submitted to TVMDL for testing become the property of the agency and may be tested as part of state/federal surveillance programs, utilized for research and educational purposes, and/or development of new assays. TVMDL is unable to return samples to the client unless prior arrangements are made and approved by the agency Director or designee.
An accession is defined as samples from the same animal / herd / flock, originating from a single animal owner, submitted for the same condition, collected at the same time. This allows clients to receive bulk testing of same species (from the same owner) under one accession. Poultry submissions requesting multiples tests (e.g., AI, Mg/Ms, culture, etc.) for a single flock are counted as one accession.
The Texas Veterinary Licensing Act prohibits TVMDL from releasing any case information to persons other than the TVMDL Client (Submitter) without prior approval from the Client.
Submitting Samples
Portal Submissions
The first step in submitting a sample to TVMDL is completing a submission form. There are two methods clients may choose from when it comes to completing a form. The first and easiest method is completing the submission form through the TVMDL online portal. This method ensures the submission form is completed accurately and thoroughly. Once the form is completed in the portal, print it out and include it in the specimen package before shipping it to TVMDL. If you’re a TVMDL client and would like to create a portal account, click on the Client Portal section of the menu at the top of the TVMDL website. Click “Forgot your password?” and follow the prompts to create a new portal account.
Paper Submissions
The second method of obtaining a TVMDL submission form is printing off one of the forms below. Forms are categorized by existing TVMDL account holders and those are who new to TVMDL or currently hold a pre-pay account. TVMDL does not recommend printing off multiple forms for future use as submission forms are updated periodically. If you have any questions during the sample submission process, please contact TVMDL.
