Amphibian Tests (90)
An accession fee of $7.00 is applied to each accession/case, not each specimen. Turnaround times are estimates in business days and apply to individual tests. Actual reporting of test results depends on the full battery of tests requested, day of the week/time of day samples arrive at the testing laboratory, and the quantity/quality of samples submitted. Information on additional services and fees can be found here.
The tests and fee schedules are provided for use by TVMDL clients, including veterinarians and animal owners. Fees charged to animal owners by veterinarians may exceed test prices shown herein, reflecting the time, expertise, and expense necessary to collect the sample, ship it in an appropriate manner, interpret results, and provide treatment advice.

|Packed Cell Volume||
Measurement of packed cell volume (PCV).
Specimen: 0.5 mL EDTA whole blood or lithium heparin whole blood
Identification of fungal organisms by PCR and sequencing. This PCR is recommended to complement identification of fungal organisms on histopathology. The assay is not recommended when fungal organisms are not observed histologically, due to the potential of amplification of non specific contaminants.
One paraffin block and two unstained slides
|Toxicology Evaluation (Microscopy)||
Identification of components and toxic substances, such as plants and plant parts, algae, insects, or bait material.
Specimen: One or more of the following: 2 cups to 1 quart of GI content, 20 mL water, 500 g feed, 2-4 flakes hay, 10 g bait material.
|Pesticide Quantitation (GC/MS)||
Follow up test to TVMDL’s Pesticide Screen; Pesticide Quantitation measures pesticides previously identified by Pesticide Screen test. Measurement is performed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry.
One or more of the following: 30 g GI content, 10 g bait (source material), 40 g forage or hay, 20 g liver, 10 g crop contents, environmental samples (swabs).
Detection of desmethylbromethalin, the toxic metabolite of bromethalin, by liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry.
Specimen: One or more of the following: 2-5 g fresh adipose tissue, kidney, brain, liver, bait.
|Buffy Coat Examination||
Detection of infectious agents (i.e. Hepatozoon spp., bacteria, spirochetes) and neoplastic cells (i.e. mast cells) by microscopic evaluation of the buffy coat.
Specimen: 1 mL EDTA whole blood
|Special Stain – Client Request||
Special slide stain as requested by the client.
Specimen: fresh or fixed tissue
