  • 1.2 mL serum or plasma 
  • 2-5 mL CSF

Collection Container

Serum: Collect blood in appropriate vacutainer tube. Centrifuge to separate serum from the clot/cells. Transfer serum to leakproof tube. Refrigerate of freeze until shipment. Protect sample from prolonged exposure to light.CSF: Aseptically collect CSF. A clean tap is recommended as test results could be altered by blood cell contamination. Transfer CSF into a leakproof tube. Refrigerate sample until shipment.

Packing Instructions

Label all samples with unique identifiers. For multiple samples, number tubes consecutively using a permanent marker or adhesive label. Place the tubes in consecutive numerical order in cardboard boxes designated for tubes. Do not submit loose in bags. Include a list of sample names/numbers or the Excel specimen import spreadsheet with submittal form. 

Special Instructions

This test is performed at the Michigan State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory in Lansing, MI. Prices listed for tests performed outside TVMDL may not include referral lab accession fees and are subject to change without notice. A processing and shipping fee is added to all referral tests.
