Rabies Virus (FA) [Referral]

Referral tests are not performed at TVMDL; a processing and shipping fee will apply.

Detection of antigen to rabies virus by fluorescent antibody test. This test is performed at the Texas Department of State Health Services in Austin, Texas. Submissions may incur additional processing charges to remove the head and/or brain. See TVMDL’s Fee Schedule for details.

Fresh brain (all animals) or entire head (small animals only).

The fresher the specimen, the greater the diagnostic yield.

Sealed, leak-proof, wide mouth plastic container. Samples submitted in glass containers are not acceptable and will incur an additional processing charge.

Label all samples. Ship overnight on cold packs.

This test is performed at the Texas Department of State Health Services in Austin, Texas. Prices listed for tests performed outside TVMDL may not include referral lab accession fees and are subject to change without notice. A processing and shipping fee is added to all referral tests. Turnaround times vary depending on shipping time and the referral lab’s schedule.
