Detection of Brachyspira hyodysenteriae or Brachyspira hampsonii, causative agents of swine dysentery (SD), by real time PCR. 

One or more of the following: 

• feces
• oral fluid
• fecal swab
• fresh colon
• environmental samples

Fresh samples provide the most accurate results. Specimens from sick animals (early in the clinical stages of disease) are often the specimens of choice.

Sealed, leak-proof plastic bag or container.

Label all samples. Ship overnight on cold packs in an insulated container.

This test is performed at the Iowa State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory in Ames, IA. Prices listed for tests performed outside TVMDL may not include referral lab accession fees and are subject to change without notice. A processing and shipping fee is added to all referral tests. Turnaround times vary depending on shipping time and the referral lab’s schedule.
