| Special Instructions | This test is primarily for exotic animals and pocket pets with small blood volumes. This test is not meant to replace a complete blood count (CBC). A CBC at TVMDL is the same cost as Blood Smear Examination – Mammalian and includes automated analysis and microscopic evaluation of a blood smear by a microscopist. When whole blood is available, TVMDL will perform a CBC instead of a Blood Smear Examination alone. The automated data provides more information for technicians and pathologists, improving blood smear review and interpretation. If a CBC was performed in-house and there is no or minimal EDTA blood left, include a copy of the instrument data to improve results from this test. | |||||||||
