As Texas hits the middle of summer, many animal owners may be interested in testing for nitrates or cyanide.
The Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) accepts biological samples such as ocular fluid, serum, or urine for nitrate testing. TVMDL also offers cyanide testing for frozen rumen contents.
TVMDL no longer accepts hay or forage samples for cyanide or nitrate testing. Clients are encouraged to submit those sample types to ServiTech Labs in Amarillo, Texas. The Texas A&M AgriLife Soil, Water, and Forage Testing Laboratory in College Station is also able to test forage for nitrates.
