Code1328
SectionMolecular Diagnostics
SpeciesBovine
Specimen

One of the following:

  • inoculated InPouch TF or direct smegma in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) or sterile staline
  • 1-2 mL preputial washes from bulls
  • 1-2 mL cervical washes from cows
  • inoculated trich pouch
  • 1-2 mL stomach content from aborted fetus
Sampling Requirements

Per the Texas Animal Health Commission's (TAHC) regulatory testing requirements, up to 5 samples may be pooled at one time if indicated on the submission form. Clients must submit individual samples and TVMDL must complete pooling.

TVMDL pools samples for $1.10 per sample, allowing the client to test five samples for the price of one. Pricing example: 5 samples submitted and pooling requested would be charged $27 testing fee + $5.50 pooling for a total of $32.50 plus accession fee.

If a pooled sample results in a positive test, TVMDL will identify the positive animal(s) by testing the individual samples in the pool at the regular price of $27.00 per test. Without the individual tests, all bulls in a positive pool are required by the State to go to slaughter.

Learn more about sending samples for molecular diagnostics testing in our online Education Library.
