Sampling Requirements | Fresh samples provide the most accurate results. Specimens from sick animals (early in the clinical stages of disease) are often the specimens of choice.

Packing Instructions | Label all samples. Ship overnight on cold packs in an insulated container.
Special Instructions | Pooled sera and pooled oral fluids can be tested for PRRSV by rtPCR if pooling is requested on the submission form. Pooling of samples in the field has not been validated. It is recommended that individual serum and/or oral fluids samples be submitted and TVMDL will make pools of 5 (5:1). The rtPCR sensitivity on pooled samples may be affected compared to individual sample test.
