Parathyroid Hormone & Ionized Calcium Profile [Referral]

Description

Measurement of parathyroid hormone (PTH) and ionized calcium. Used in diagnosis of: calcium metabolic disorders, hypoparathyroidism, hyperparathyroidism (primary or secondary), malignancy, vitamin D disorders, renal disease, hypercalcemia, and hypocalcemia. Also used to monitor calcitriol therapy.

1 mL fasting serum

Sampling Requirements

12 hour fasted sample is required. Avoid hemolysis.

Collection Container

Remove from red cells and place sample in an additive free transport tube.

Packing Instructions

Label all samples. Ship overnight on cold packs.

This test is performed at the Michigan State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (MSUVDL) in Lansing, MI.
