Nasal swabs and lung tissue are not acceptable for equine testing. |
Sampling Requirements | If firm stool is not available, allow swab to absorb liquid feces or roll the swab in fecal material and cover cotton swab. |
Collection Container | Swab: sterile, sealed vials with several drops of saline added to prevent desiccation. Feces or tissue: leak-proof, sterile container. Bacterial transport media are not appropriate for PCR assays. Dacron and synthetic swabs are preferred for PCR based assays. Calcium alginate swabs are not acceptable. |
Packing Instructions | Label all samples. Ship overnight on cold packs. |
Special Instructions | This test is performed at the Cornell University Animal Health Diagnostic Center in Ithaca, NY.
