Equine Chorionic Gonadotropin (RIA) [Referral]

Description

Referral tests are not performed at TVMDL; a processing and shipping fee will apply.

Detection of equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) to determine pregnancy. This test is only available for domestic horses; the referral lab will not perform the test for samples from zebra or donkeys.

1 mL serum

Sampling Requirements

This test is valid for samples taken between 50-100 days after breeding.

Collect serum from clotted blood in a non-additive tube (e.g. plain red top or serum separator). When possible, transfer clear serum off the clot into a new tube.

Collection Container

Glass or plastic tube with no anticoagulant additives.

Packing Instructions

Label all samples with unique identifiers. 

Use cold packs during hot weather, especially if shipping serum samples on the clot. Overnight shipping is recommended.

This test is only available for domestic horses; the referral lab will not perform the test for samples from zebra or donkeys.  This test is performed at the Cornell University Animal Health Diagnostic Center in Ithaca, NY. Prices listed for tests performed outside TVMDL may not include referral lab accession fees and are subject to change without notice. A processing and shipping fee is added to all referral tests. Turnaround times vary depending on shipping time and the referral lab’s schedule.
