Calf Diarrhea Multiplex (rtPCR)

Detection of the most common viral and protozoal causes of diarrhea in calves 60 days of age and younger. Includes bovine coronavirus, bovine rotavirus A, and cryptosporidium, all by real time PCR.

One or more of the following: 

• 5-10 g (approx. 1/4 cup) feces
• 1-2 mL intestinal contents
• 1-2 g gastrointestinal tissue

Moist swabs are preferred; it its recommended to add 1-2 drops of sterile saline to the swab and place in a sterile, leak-proof container (e.g. red top tube). Bacterial culture swabs submitted in bacterial culture media (gel, charcoal, etc.) are not suitable for PCR testing. Fresh samples provide the most accurate results.

Sealed, leak-proof plastic bag or container.

Label all samples. Ship overnight on cold packs in an insulated container.

This test does not detect the COVID-19 strain of coronavirus.
