Is PT testing still required in Texas?
Yes, PT testing is still required. As of January 1, 2022 flock owners have an additional source of PT testing through a Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) inspector.

Why is TAHC eligible to perform PT testing?
TVMDL has partnered with TAHC to provide an additional source of testing for flock owners. Through this partnership, the Texas PT Program can ensure all regions of Texas have access to convenient and accurate PT testing.

What is the Domestic and Exotic Fowl Registration Program?
The Domestic and Exotic Fowl Registration Program is administered by TAHC. Enrollment in this program is required for public sale of poultry in the state of Texas.

Who can test my flock if I am enrolled in the Domestic and Exotic Fowl Registration program?
Flock owners who are enrolled in the Domestic and Exotic Fowl Registration Program can request either a TAHC inspector or an Authorized Active Testing Agent to test their flock for PT. Flock owners registered in Program are required to have their flock validated and inspected by TAHC personnel once a year. Beginning in 2022, during this visit, the flock will be validated, inspected and also PT tested. Flock owners may also schedule a TAHC inspector to test their flock outside of their yearly visit or may request an Authorized Active Testing Agent to perform testing.

Who can test my flock if I am not enrolled in the Domestic and Exotic Fowl Registration program?
Flock owners who are not enrolled in the Domestic and Exotic Fowl Registration Program can only request PT testing from an Authorized Active Testing Agent. TAHC inspectors cannot test flocks unless they are enrolled in the Domestic and Exotic Fowl Registration Program.
