What is required to be an active tester?
Active testers must file an annual MOU with the PT Program Office and attend a renewal training every three years.
Is PT testing still required?
Yes, PT testing is still required.
Can I still test my own birds?
Yes, current Authorized Testing Agents can still test their own flocks.
Can I still test other flocks?
If requested by the flock owner, Authorized Active Testing Agents can still test flocks of poultry.
Who can test flocks enrolled in the Texas Animal Health Commission's (TAHC) Domestic and Exotic Fowl Registration program?
Flock owners enrolled in the Domestic and Exotic Fowl Registration program can request either an Authorized Active Testing Agent or a TAHC inspector to test their flocks.
Who can test flocks not enrolled in the TAHC Domestic and Exotic Fowl Registration program?
Only Authorized Active Testing Agents can test flocks not enrolled in the Domestic and Exotic Fowl Registration program. TAHC inspectors can only test flocks that are enrolled in the Fowl Registration program.
Will there be flocks to test once TAHC inspectors are eligible to start testing?
Yes, TAHC inspectors cannot test flocks unless they are enrolled in the Domestic and Exotic Fowl Registration program. Therefore, only Authorized Active Testing Agents can test those flocks not enrolled in the Domestic and Exotic Fowl Registration program.
Why is TAHC eligible to perform PT testing?
TVMDL has partnered with TAHC to provide an additional source of testing for flock owners. Through this partnership, the Texas PT Program can ensure all regions of Texas have access to convenient and accurate PT testing.
When will TAHC inspectors be eligible to begin testing?
As of January 1, 2022, flock owners can now request TAHC inspectors to perform PT testing.
