On July 1, the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) welcomed Margaret Odom, DVM, the agency’s first veterinary resident.
The three-year training program is a collaborative effort between TVMDL and Texas A&M University’s School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (SVMBS). Odom’s residency will focus on anatomic pathology. As part of her training at TVMDL, Odom will perform microscopic and gross examinations for TVMDL’s diverse clientele, which includes mammalian, avian, and exotic species. At SVMBS, Odom will teach veterinary students, mentor technical staff, and participate in rounds presentations. Throughout her training, the Odom will also be taking courses at the SVMBS to earn a master’s degree.
Odom earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University in 2020. Following graduation, she completed a one year small animal speciality rotating internship at Veterinary Speciality Center of Seattle. She comes to TVMDL from Washington where she has served as a contract veterinarian for two years. In addition to practice experience, Odom also brings in nearly a decade of externship experience she has earned from around the world.
