Due to a decrease in requests, the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) will soon discontinue nitrate and cyanide (prussic acid) testing for hay and forage samples.
Starting immediately, TVMDL will no longer accept hay samples for cyanide testing. Clients are encouraged to submit samples to ServiTech Labs in Amarillo, Texas. Starting January 1, TVMDL will no longer accept forage samples for cyanide or nitrate testing and hay samples for nitrate testing. Clients may also submit forage samples to ServiTech Labs for cyanide or nitrate testing. The Texas A&M AgriLife Soil, Water, and Forage Testing Laboratory in College Station is also able to test forage for nitrates.
TVMDL will continue to accept biological samples such as ocular fluid, serum, or urine for nitrate testing and frozen rumen content for cyanide testing.
