The Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) is pleased to announce the addition of Cytology-Urine to the test catalog. This new offering aims to aid in the characterization of urine and assist with the diagnosis of urinary tumors.
Evaluation of urine can aid in the diagnosis of urinary neoplasms, such as urothelial carcinoma (previously termed transition cell carcinoma). Complete evaluation of a urine sample is best achieved through a full urinalysis and pathologist review.
The Cytology – Urine test includes a full urinalysis as well as stained slide examination by a clinical pathologist. A full urinalysis includes gross examination, specific gravity, biochemical analysis with indicated confirmatory testing, and unstained wet mount microscopic evaluation. Urinalysis results and a full written cytology report are provided as part of this test.
