Starting July 1, the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) will retire the Mycoplasma gallisepticum hemagglutination inhibition (HI) and Mycoplasma synoviae (HI) tests due to a decline in requests.
As an alternative, clients may request Mycoplasma gallisepticum & synoviae Multiplex (rtPCR). The rtPCR test is more sensitive and specific than the HI tests. Clients who still wish to use the HI method may submit samples to Poultry Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (PRDL) at Mississippi State University or the Georgia Poultry Laboratory Network (GPLN).
For more information on TVMDL’s test offerings, visit tvmdl.tamu.edu or call one of the agency’s four laboratory locations.
