January 18, 2021 by Mallory Pfeifer

The Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) annually presents the Director’s Excellence Award to individuals who embody the agency’s mission. Each year, TVMDL employees nominate peers they believe exemplify excellence through testing services, quality assurance, technological advances, and overall dedication to TVMDL.

Maritza Anguiano

TVMDL is pleased to announce Maritza Anguiano as a 2020 recipient of the Director’s Excellence Award in the administrative category.

As the histopathology laboratory supervisor, Anguiano oversees a team of technicians while also serving as a link between technical staff and section leadership. In addition to daily oversight, she is actively involved in agency-wide projects aimed at improving her section and the agency.

For example, Anguiano is the section representative for an internal Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) focus group. In her role, Anguiano advocates section concerns to LIMS developers and trains staff on the system to ensure efficient and accurate testing.

Additionally, Anguiano is credited for assisting in the implementation of digital pathology at TVMDL. She assists in troubleshooting efforts and serves as the point of contact for other diagnostic laboratories that are considering implementing the service.

Anguiano is also involved in projects that support collaboration between TVMDL and other entities. She is actively involved in planning conversations and is committed to training other staff on the technical demands each project entails.

Her past efforts with these projects have been recognized across the veterinary community while her future efforts will likely lead to additional recognition.

“Maritza is a selfless, hardworking, mature, thoughtful, respectful, innovative, resourceful, and highly organized individual that pays close attention to detail,” Anatomic Pathology Section Head Gabriel Gomez, DVM, PhD, DACVP said. “She aims to make things work better and does not settle for how they are.”

Please join TVMDL in congratulating this year’s Director’s Excellence Award recipients.
