Recently, Clinical Pathology Section Head Dr. Julie Piccione was featured in the Texas Equine Veterinary Association’s (TEVA) summer 2018 issue of The Remuda. Piccione co-authored an article discussing Pneumocystis in horses. Pneumocytosis is a interstitial pneumonia caused by Pneumocystis spp. that can be present in both humans and animals. Although historically referred to as a protozoal organism, Pneumocystis spp. has been reclassified as a fungal organism through recent advancements.
