Texas Pullorum-Typhoid Program
The Texas Pullorum-Typhoid (PT) Program serves an important role in protecting the health of Texas’ poultry flocks.
Protecting poultry health in Texas and beyond
The mission of the Pullorum-Typhoid (PT) Program is to bring about the control and eradication of pullorum disease and fowl typhoid from poultry flocks in Texas and to maintain Texas as a U.S. Pullorum-Typhoid Clean State.
The program, enacted by the 65th Texas Legislature, requires that all domestic poultry (chicken, guinea, pheasant, quail, peafowl and turkey) offered for sale, trade, or used to produce offspring for sale or trade must be tested for pullorum and typhoid and found to be free of infection. In addition, the program requires all poultry going to public exhibition or public sale to be found free of infection or originate from a certified clean flock.
Does my flock need a PT test?
Texans own birds for a variety of purposes. Those who intend on selling or showing their birds, may need a PT test. Take this short questionnaire to determine if you need to test your flock for PT.
Everyone plays a role in protecting poultry health
All bird owners play a critical role in supporting the health, safety, and sustainability of Texas’ poultry flocks. Whether you’re an authorized tester or a flock owner, everyone plays an important part in supporting poultry health.
Find an Authorized Tester
Authorized PT testers are located across the state. Each tester can determine the county or counties they serve, and charges associated with their testing service. Flock owners enrolled in the Texas Animal Health Commission’s (TAHC) Domestic and Exotic Fowl Registration Program have the option of contacting a TAHC inspector to perform testing.
National Poultry Improvement Plan
