Solving tomorrow’s animal health issues through today’s testing

TVMDL boasts over 650 test offerings. Over our 50-plus years of service, we’ve dedicated a considerable amount of time to ensuring every test we offer is efficient, effective, and affordable. Some of our tests rely on tried-and-true gold standard methods while others incorporate the newest instrumentation and technology.

No matter the test, our goal remains the same – serve clients through superior testing services.

Quality testing at competitive prices

An accession fee of $8.50 is applied to each accession. Fees for all tests and services are carefully evaluated annually, striving to keep fees affordable while also enabling us to provide superior service to our clients. The tests and fee schedules are provided for use by TVMDL’s submitting clients. Fees charged to animal owners by veterinarians may exceed test prices shown herein, reflecting the time, expertise, and expense necessary to collect the sample, ship it in an appropriate manner, interpret results, and provide treatment advice.

Providing you results to make animal health decisions, one accession at a time

An accession is defined as samples from the same animal / herd / flock, originating from a single animal owner, submitted for the same condition, collected at the same time. This allows clients to receive bulk testing of same species (from the same owner) under one accession. Poultry submissions requesting multiples tests (e.g., AI, Mg/Ms, culture, etc.) for a single flock are counted as one accession.

Additional Policies

All samples and accompanying documentation submitted to TVMDL for testing become the property of the agency and may be tested as part of state/federal surveillance programs, utilized for research and educational purposes, and/or development of new assays. TVMDL is unable to return samples to the client unless prior arrangements are made and approved by the agency Director or designee.

Testing Limitations

TVMDL reserves the right to limit or deny testing for specimens originating from an animal known to be positive for a select agent or toxin, or other high consequence disease. TVMDL is subject to state and federal shipping regulations and may not be able to return or ship these samples to another laboratory for testing. Contact TVMDL before sending specimens that may meet these criteria.

Due to the potential health risk to TVMDL personnel, the Agency does not provide testing on any specimen derived from primate species, including lemurs. The only exception to this policy is that testing of formalin-fixed tissue may be performed.

TVMDL is unable to test medications submitted for identification or radioactive specimens and cannot return or ship such specimens to the client or another laboratory.
