Losing a pet is a deeply emotional experience, and it’s important to have support. This page offers resources clients may consider when grieving the loss of a pet and information on how TVMDL works with crematoriums.
TVMDL’s ready to assist the crematorium of your choice
Animal cremation offers a respectful and dignified way to honor your pet after they pass. Following a necropsy exam, TVMDL is happy to work with a cremation service to ensure a compassionate farewell for your animal.
TVMDL does not provide cremation services. Arrangements for cremation must be made by the submitting client with their preferred cremation service provider. Clients interested in an animal being held for cremation must indicate this request on the TVMDL Submission Form. Note: for horses, only the heart, head, and hooves can be released for cremation.
When making arrangements, the submitting client must provide the following information to the crematorium to facilitate discharge of the animal from TVMDL to the crematorium:
- TVMDL Accession Number
- Animal owner’s name
- Name/species of animal
TVMDL Storage and Release Policies
- To adhere to biosafety protocols, TVMDL cannot release remains or body parts other than to professional crematoriums. TVMDL cannot ship remains.
- Unless a client requested a body to be held for cremation on the submission form, bodies are disposed of following necropsy.
- Due to storage limitations, TVMDL can only hold bodies for cremation for seven days following a necropsy examination.
- In accordance with the agency’s client confidentiality policy, TVMDL cannot release case-specific information to anyone other than the submitting client.
- The submitting client is responsible for relaying case-specific information to the crematorium to schedule a pickup from TVMDL.
Crematoriums
TVMDL has compiled a list of frequently used crematoriums. The agency does not endorse any cremation service. Clients can make arrangements with the professional crematorium of their choosing. To reference in your clinic, download and print the frequently used crematorium list.
