Pesticide Screen (GC/MS)

Detection and identification of a variety of chemicals including organophosphates, organochlorines, carbamates, industrial pollutants, polycyclic aromatics, aliphatic hydrocarbons, miscellaneous pesticides, some natural products and some drugs using gas chromatography – mass spectrometry (GC/MS). 

Samples are screened using multiple instrument libraries containing mass spectra for thousands of compounds. Positive identification of a suspect sample is made by comparing sample mass spectra with that of a certified reference standard. 

One or more of the following: 

• 30 g GI content
• 10 g bait (source material)
• 40 g forage or hay
• 20 g liver
• 10 g crop contents
• 20 mL water
• 20 g soil
• swabs

None

Sealed, leak-proof plastic bag or container.

Label all samples. Ship overnight on cold packs.

The testing schedule reflects days that extractions are initiated. Samples must be received in the testing section by 3:30 pm the day prior to the scheduled test day, otherwise samples will be held until the next scheduled test day. Turnaround time represents the estimated number of business days needed for complete extraction, sample preparation, instrument analysis, quality review, and data interpretation.
 
Samples deemed suspicious from initial screening will be subject to confirmatory testing. Confirmation may take several weeks when standards have to be purchased to confirm unique compounds.
