DNA Typing (Microsatellite) [Referral]
Individual genotyping/DNA profile/genetic marker report, ancestry testing, and parentage verification.
Quarter inch diameter of mane (preferred), tail, or body hair with the roots/follicles intact.
Sampling Requirements
Approximately 1/4-inch in diameter of mane (preferred), tail, and/or body hair should be submitted for testing. Hair should be pulled, not cut, ensuring the roots/follicles remain intact. Strands of hair can be pulled from multiple locations of the same source (i.e., mane) in order to achieve the required amount. If collecting multiple samples, use new disposable gloves each time. Wash hands between each collection if gloves are not worn.
Collection Container
Sealed, leak-proof plastic bag or container.
Packing Instructions
Place sample in foil, rubber band, or paper strip secured with a paper clip. Do not use tape of any kind on the sample. Do not store samples in the refrigerator, freezer, or direct sunlight.
Special Instructions
This test is performed at the Animal Genetics Laboratory in the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University. Prices for tests performed outside TVMDL may not include lab accession and forwarding fees and are subject to change without notice. Turnaround times vary depending on shipping time and the referral lab's schedule.
