Specimen
0.5 mL serum or plasma
Macroscopic evaluation of fresh or fixed specimens for lesions by a pathologist prior to histopathology processing.
Fresh tissue in 10% neutral buffered formalin (NBF)
Measurement of heavy metals by inductively-coupled plasma/mass spectrometry. Targets for avian samples include lead, arsenic, cadmium, zinc, and thallium. A tissue prep fee will be added to tissue specimens.
One or more of the following:
Microscopic examination of Wright’s Giemsa stained blood smear for infectious agents only.
0.5 mL EDTA whole blood or air-dried slide
Detection of a variety of herbicides by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry.
Histologic evaluation of antemortem, formalin fixed tissue.
