Referral tests are not performed at TVMDL; a processing and delivery fee will apply. To expedite results, submitters should send samples directly to the Kansas State University Rabies Laboratory to ensure specific requirements are met. Each sample requires a completed Kansas State University Rabies Laboratory FAVN Form signed by a USDA accredited veterinarian.
Detection of antibodies to rabies virus by fluorescent antibody virus neutralization. The FAVN test is required by many rabies-free countries or regions for dog and cat travel.
Measurement of relaxin by Rapid ImmunoMigration. In dogs, relaxin can be detected as early as 22 days of pregnancy but more reliably after 28 days of pregnancy. The highest concentration of relaxin occurs at 42-56 days of pregnancy in dogs. In cats, relaxin can be detected as early as 25 days but more reliably after 31 days of pregnancy.

Detection of pathogens commonly attributed to respiratory disease in felines; includes bordetella bronchiseptica, feline herpesvirus, feline calicivirus, influenza A, Chlamydophila spp., Mycoplasma felis, and Mycoplasma spp. (if M. felis is negative), all by real time PCR.

“Pooling” must be written on the submission form, otherwise samples from different anatomical locations of the same animal will be tested and charged separately.
