Identification of bacterial pathogens requiring an anaerobic environment by culture.
Specimen
One or more of the following:
Classification of bacterial organism based on Gram stain characteristic.
One of the following:
Detection of lungworm larvae by the Baermann method.
Measurement of direct bilirubin by automated analyzer.
0.5 mL serum or lithium heparin plasma
Measurement of total bilirubin by automated analyzer.
Microscopic WBC differential, cellular morphology, and hemoparasite exam.
1-2 air-dried blood smear slides
Measurement of the percent bone marrow fat to assess the nutritional status of an individual animal. Recommended for diagnosis of malnutrition / starvation.
Femur bone is preferred. 1 g marrow is required.
Detection of Brachyspira hyodysenteriae or Brachyspira hampsonii, causative agents of swine dysentery (SD), by real time PCR.
Detection of desmethylbromethalin, the toxic metabolite of bromethalin, by liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry.
One or more of the following: 2-5 g fresh adipose tissue, kidney, brain, liver, bait.
Detection of antibodies to Brucella abortus and Brucella suis, the causative agents of brucellosis, using buffered acidified plate antigen (BAPA).
