Detection of antibodies to Ehrlichia canis, the causative agent of ehrlichiosis, by indirect fluorescent antibody test. Performed at 1:64, 1:128, 1:256, 1:512, 1:1024, and 1:2048 dilutions.
Specimen
Measurement of sodium, potassium, and chloride by automated analyzer.
0.5 mL serum, lithium heparin plasma, ocular fluid, or urine.
General evaluation of samples for virus particles using transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
One or more of the following:
Measurement of estradiol.
0.5 mL serum
Detection of ethylene glycol by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry.
20 g stomach content, vomitus, or bait
Detection of fecal occult blood by the stool Guaiac test.
1 g feces
Measurement of folate by chemiluminescence.
0.5 mL serum from a fasted sample
Measurement of free T4 (unbound) by chemiluminescence.
Measurement of free T4 by equilibrium dialysis, followed by radioimmunoassay.
1.0 mL serum
Measurement of fructosamine levels. This test is useful in monitoring glucose in diabetic animals.
