Due to instrumentation updates, Analytical Chemistry drug testing may experience temporary delays of as much as 5 business days. Standard turnaround times are expected to resume by December 1, 2025.
Referral tests are not performed at TVMDL; a processing and shipping fee will apply. To expedite results, submitters should send samples directly to the Kansas State University Rabies Laboratory to ensure specific requirements are met. Each sample requires a completed Kansas State University Rabies Laboratory FAVN Form signed by a USDA accredited veterinarian.
Detection of antibodies to rabies virus by fluorescent antibody virus neutralization. The FAVN test is required by many rabies-free countries or regions for dog and cat travel.
Measurement of relaxin by Rapid ImmunoMigration. In dogs, relaxin can be detected as early as 22 days of pregnancy but more reliably after 28 days of pregnancy. The highest concentration of relaxin occurs at 42-56 days of pregnancy in dogs. In cats, relaxin can be detected as early as 25 days but more reliably after 31 days of pregnancy.
Specimen
0.5 mL serum, lithium heparin plasma, or EDTA plasma
