Measurement of trace minerals by inductively-coupled plasma/mass spectrometry. Targets include copper, cobalt, iron, manganese, molybdenum, selenium, and zinc. A tissue/feed prep fee will be added to tissue and feed specimens.
Specimen
One or more of the following:
1 mL serum/plasma +/- 0.5 mL EDTA whole blood*
For birds, 0.6 mL EDTA or heparinized whole blood is adequate.
*Serum/plasma samples are required for this panel. Whole blood may be useful to evaluate chronic selenium status, as concentrations reflect selenium exposure over an extended period. Serum/plasma selenium provides information on real time concentrations only. TVMDL provides reference intervals for both serum/plasma and whole blood selenium for cattle, horses, sheep, birds, and white-tailed deer. For goats, TVMDL has reference intervals for serum/plasma only.
