On May 7, Erika Schwarz, DVM, MPH, PhD, DACVM joined the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) in College Station. She will serve as TVMDL’s assistant agency director for microbiology.
Schwarz is a four-time graduate of the University of Florida. She earned a bachelor’s degree in 2011 and simultaneously earned a Master of Public Health and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2016. In 2020, she earned a PhD and in 2022 she was awarded diplomate status from the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists with a virology specialty.
Schwarz comes to TVMDL from the Montana Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at the Montana Department of Livestock where she served as a clinical veterinary microbiologist. While there, she oversaw the serology, bacteriology, molecular biology, and virology sections.
In her role at TVMDL, Schwarz will oversee the serology, bacteriology, molecular diagnostics, and virology sections at TVMDL’s College Station laboratory and will also serve as the virology section head. As assistant agency director, Schwarz will also provide testing guidance, result interpretation, case coordination, education, and outreach specific to her sections for the agency’s 6,000-plus annual clients.
