
Martins earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Federal University of Santa Maria in Brazil in 2012. He went on to earn a master’s degree in 2014 and his PhD in 2018 in virology, both from the Federal University of Santa Maria.
Martins comes to TVMDL from Cornell University where he served as a research associate. While there, much of Martins’ research focused on the development of reagents. He also established multiple in vitro assays and in vivo models to better understand the characteristics and pathogenicity of SARS-CoV-2 infection.
In addition to his diagnostic expertise, Martins also served as an assistant professor at the University of Western Santa Catarina in Brazil and postdoctoral associate at Cornell University.
