Dr. Barr is a board-certified toxicologist (ABT) serving in the Analytical Chemistry Section since fall of 2015. She is particularly interested in regional toxic plants and their livestock effects, mycotoxins and other feed/forage-related toxins. With nearly 20 years in diagnostic toxicology at TVMDL, she draws on a wealth of observations, interactions with large and small animal practitioners, and collaborations with TVMDL staff to trouble-shoot and unravel potential poisoning cases. She has provided IPM CEUs on toxic plant management for pesticide applicators’ license renewal, general toxicology discussions for 4-H veterinary science programs, feed-related toxin presentations for practitioners and producers, and really enjoys visiting middle-school science programs to talk about diagnostics and problem solving. Other interests include:
- regional toxic plants
- mycotoxins
- feed/forage-related toxins
- small animal poisonings
- the role of diagnostic labs in the larger NAHLN
