Leading the conversation: Piccione’s invited review highlights utility of digital pathology in veterinary clinical pathology

June 6, 2025

Digital pathology has enhanced the field of veterinary medicine. Specifically in diagnostic settings, digital components have increased accuracy, efficiency, and accessibility for both clients and diagnosticians.

Julie Piccione, DVM, MS, DACVP, assistant agency director for clinical pathology at the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory, TVMDL, was recently invited by Veterinary Pathology, a leading publication in the veterinary industry, to author a review on digital pathology in the field of clinical pathology. Dr. Piccione identified three co-authors from across the country based on their expertise, interests, and experience. Together, the group addressed the utility of digital pathology in the clinical pathology discipline and how digital services and artificial intelligence can be incorporated in diagnostic settings.

The article, which was published online ahead of print in Veterinary Pathology, can be accessed by visiting the journal’s website.

In addition to digital cytology, TVMDL also offers digital services for parasite and ova identification, toxic plant identification, and pathologic evaluation. For more information TVMDL’s digital services, visit tvmdl.tamu.edu or call the College Station laboratory at 1.888.646.5623.
