The Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) annually presents the Director’s Excellence Award to individuals who encompass selfless service to the agency. Each year, TVMDL employees nominate peers they believe exemplify TVMDL’s mission. The 2019 winner in the Professional Category for the College Station laboratory is Cheryl Maguire, DVM.
Dr. Maguire is one of TVMDL’s five veterinary diagnosticians. In her role, she serves both TVMDL and the agency’s clients through case consultations. In her nomination packet, Dr. Maguire is described as having a “passion for veterinary medicine that allows her to go the extra mile.”
She is noted to go beyond simply answering a question, but rather, going through the various details of a client’s case history in order to provide an unparalleled level of service. In several instances, this dedication has resulted in major changes to a client’s diagnostic workup and, as a result, the outcome of patients.
Dr. Maguire has decades of experience in small animal practice, shelter medicine, practice ownership, and bench work. These experiences allow her to relate to a variety of TVMDL’s clients, tailoring each consultation to their specific diagnostic needs.
In addition to assisting clients and TVMDL employees, Dr. Maguire also dedicates a large portion of her time to educating students interested in pursuing careers in veterinary medicine. Annually, she gives presentations to students enrolled at Texas A&M University. For these presentations, Dr. Maguire often recruits other TVMDL employees to present alongside her to ensure students learn from various perspectives. Through this partnership with Texas A&M, Dr. Maguire has inspired several students to pursue careers in veterinary medicine, specifically in veterinary diagnostics.
Dr. Maguire is the embodiment of TVMDL’s mission to service. Please join TVMDL in congratulating her and this year’s other Director’s Excellence Award recipients.
