Sarah Eide, assistant clinical pathology section head at the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) in College Station, was recently awarded the 2018 Vice Chancellor’s Award in Excellence in Diagnostic Services.
Eide began her career at TVMDL in 2011 after an impressive 20-year tenure working in human medical diagnostics. Her invaluable experience and unique perspective have allowed TVMDL’s clinical pathology section to flourish.
Under Eide’s leadership, the clinical pathology section has continued to expand its services to TVMDL clients. Most recently, Eide led development and validation efforts for a test that identifies liver disease in cattle and another to measure platelet mass in dogs. Eide is now leading efforts to improve testing methodologies, establish new test validation, and refresh reference intervals for TVMDL’s entire endocrinology test catalog.
In addition to testing improvements, Eide has improved laboratory training programs. While training is typically focused on new hires, Eide’s depth of knowledge allows for even the most senior technicians to gain new knowledge each day. Eide is known for her ability to simplify even the most complex testing technique or result. This talent has allowed all technicians in her section to grow more confident and efficient in their abilities and has benefitted her colleagues in other testing disciplines throughout TVMDL.
In addition to her technical ability, Eide brings a compassion to her job that allows her to see the actual client behind each diagnostic report. “She is well aware that her job is more than the numbers on the paper, and that there is a sick lap dog, an underweight horse, or an important food animal herd on the other end of those reports,” says Dr. Julie Piccione, clinical pathology section head.
“Sarah exemplifies TVMDL’s mission,” Dr. Bruce Akey, TVMDL director said. “Her wealth of knowledge, empathy, work ethic, and ability to help others make her an invaluable asset to the agency.”
The Vice Chancellor’s Award in Excellence is the highest award given by Texas A&M AgriLife. Recipients are recognized for their outstanding achievements and current and sustained productivity.
Please join TVMDL in congratulating Sarah Eide on receiving the 2018 Vice Chancellor’s Award in Excellence for Diagnostic Services.
