A reminder to our clients within easy driving range of the Sam and Sally Glass Poultry Diagnostic Laboratory in Gonzales, Texas: the Gonzales lab accepts limited submissions for mammalian necropsy examinations. The service allows Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) clients and local practitioners to benefit from expanded necropsy services in their area without shipping charges incurred delivering the carcass to Amarillo or College Station.
While the poultry industry is vital to the Gonzales area, it is not the only livestock or animal industry TVMDL services can support. Gonzales Resident Director Martin D. Ficken, DVM, PhD, is a board certified anatomic veterinary pathologist, and will perform necropsy exams on animals up to 50 pounds. The staff will also perform some bacteriology and parasitology testing.
• Small mammals up to 50 pounds
This includes calf and equine fetuses, companion animals and other species.
• Necropsy submissions will be accepted between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
After hours drop off will depend on pathologist availability as there will not be facilities to hold a sample overnight.
• Additional services include bacteriology and basic parasitology.
If the requested tests are not conducted in Gonzales, the lab will coordinate sending samples to the full service laboratory in College Station. For more information, contact the Sam and Sally Glass Poultry Diagnostic Laboratory at 830.672.2834, or visit tvmdl.tamu.edu.
