The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has disseminated a variety of information detailing how poultry owners, hunters and bird enthusiasts can actively work to keep flocks safe. The recent high pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5 cases in Arkansas, California, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, South Dakota, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming have made headlines. The best way to control the disease spread is to be educated about HPAI.
Whether a commercial or backyard/urban flock owners, biosecurity is the first step to preventing the spread of the recent high-pathogenic avian influenza H5 outbreak. Communication is key to educating bird owners and the public.
