Quarter inch diameter of mane, tail, or body hair with the roots/follicles intact.
Mane, tail, and/or body hair samples should be bunched approximately 1/4-inch in diameter and clipped as close to the skin as possible. Inclusion of the root is not necessary. If collecting multiple samples, wash scissors, and use new disposable gloves each time. Wash hands between each collection if gloves are not worn.
Sealed, leak-proof plastic bag or container.
Place sample in foil, rubber band, or paper strip secured with a paper clip. Clearly label the root end. Do not use tape of any kind on the sample. Do not store samples in the refrigerator, freezer, or direct sunlight.
