The Comprehensive Fungal Serology Panel detects antibodies to Blastomyces, Coccidioides, Histoplasma and Aspergillus in serum by the agar gel immunodiffusion (AGID); antibodies to Coccidioides, Histoplasma and Aspergillus by the complement fixation (CF) tests; and antigen to Cryptococcus neoformans by latex agglutination test (AGGL) (sample tested at 1:2 to endpoint titer). The AGID produces a qualitative positive or negative result for common fungal agents. The CF produces a quantitative result (titer) which is also useful for monitoring the effect of treatment of fungal agents over time by demonstrating a rise or decline in antibody level. The Cryptococcus neoformans antigen test with endpoint titer is also useful for monitoring the effect of treatment over time.
This panel includes all fungal serology test offerings at TVMDL. All techniques can be used for diagnostic purposes.
