Dr. Helman graduated from Texas A&M University with three degrees: summa cum laude with a bachelor of science in veterinary medicine in 1976; in 1977, earned a doctorate in veterinary medicine, and in 1981, a PhD in veterinary pathology. He also holds a master of arts from Columbia International University, earned in 2010. Since 1982, he has held board certification from the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, and he is a current member of the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD).
He has published 55 articles in peer-reviewed journals and boasts an impressive list of funded research efforts and teaching endeavors. His hands-on experience in food animal diagnostics, toxicology, pathology and companion animal diagnostics make him well suited to speak on a number of veterinary diagnostic topics.
