TVMDL is pleased to partner with the Texas AgriLife Extension Service to employ Dr. Tom Hairgrove as a Livestock and Food Animal Systems Veterinarian. Dr. Hairgrove’s unique position is the first of its kind and signals the importance of closer partnerships between diagnostic services and the educational efforts of AgriLife Extension.
Working closely with Animal Science and Poultry specialists from AgriLife Extension, Dr. Hairgrove’s efforts focus on program development and implementation related to the livestock and food animal industries. Dr. Hairgrove is specially positioned to collaborate on program development, implementation and evaluation in the areas of herd health, management and quality assurance in livestock and food animal production systems for livestock owners, allied industry groups and confined livestock operations. His primary emphasis on beef, dairy, sheep/goats, swine, poultry and horses, with some work on special issues include wildlife, when called upon.
Dr. Tammy Beckham, Director of TVMDL, has a significant interest in expanded education and training for veterinarians, producers and allied industry groups that will contribute to better utilization of TVMDL resources. To that end, Dr. Hairgrove available to assist industry groups, associations and producers in understanding and better utilizing technology/tests, sample gathering/handling strategies, procedures that pertain to impact of diseases/toxins, and tracking of disease trends. He also works to maintain and enhance industry relationships and to provide input on determination of diagnostic priorities as well as emerging issues.
