Sivakumar Periasamy, BVSc, PhD joined the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory’s (TVMDL) College Station laboratory on September 9. Dr. Periasamy will serve as the laboratory’s virology section head.
In 2001, Dr. Periasamy earned a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University in Chennai, India. After graduation, Dr. Periasamy went on to earn a Master of Veterinary Science in 2003 and a PhD in 2007 from the Indian Research Institute in Izatnagar, India. While there, he focused on veterinary pathology and microbiology. In 2017, Dr. Periasamy became a Diplomate of American College of Veterinary Microbiologists.
Dr. Periasamy comes to TVMDL from the School of Veterinary Medicine at Louisiana State University (LSU) where he has served as a research assistant professor since 2018. Prior to his tenure at LSU, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship from Albany Medical College in New York in the Department of Immunology and Microbial Disease and later went on to serve as an instructor in that department.
Dr. Periasamy brings a wealth of experience in virology, immunology, pathology, and diagnosis of animal diseases to TVMDL.
