Earlier this month Clinical Pathology Section Head Julie Piccione, DVM, MS, DACVP, spoke at the 2018 American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) Forum on Tick-Borne Relapsing Fever (TBRF). TBRF is endemic in the state of Texas and has been reported in dogs in Texas, Florida, and Washington State. Additionally, TBRF is known to affect humans in many states across the western and southwestern United States. TBRF is under-recognized in veterinary medicine and should be considered in dogs with thrombocytopenia, fever, and inappetence.
