Each year, the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory’s (TVMDL) Director’s Excellence Award is presented to four employees who epitomize selfless dedication to the agency. TVMDL employees nominate peers they believe exemplify excellence through testing services, quality assurance, technological advances, and overall dedication to TVMDL. The 2017 winner in the Administrative Category is Stephanie Merrell.
Merrell has been a dedicated employee for over 13 years. Beginning her career as a student worker, Merrell has worked her way up to her current role of supervising diagnostic and receiving services at the Amarillo laboratory.
In addition to her current position, Merrell has taken an active role in organizing and implementing the Amarillo laboratory’s annual Bovine Respiratory Disease conference. This conference is critical to the education and communication with various agricultural entities in the Texas Panhandle and Merrell has been a significant part of its success.
Along with her diagnostic and receiving duties, Merrell also serves as the Information Technology (IT) administrator and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) administrator for the Amarillo laboratory. Both of these roles are integral to the daily and long-term functioning of the laboratory.
Additionally, Merrell’s enthusiasm and knowledge of TVMDL’s services has allowed her to build a positive reputation with many clients. As noted in her nomination packet, several clients look to Merrell as a resource. She exemplifies customer service and has positively contributed to the Amarillo laboratory’s client-centric reputation.
During her tenure at TVMDL, Merrell’s many accomplishments have created an environment that promotes success and progress.
TVMDL employs over 150 professional throughout various veterinary diagnostics roles and capacities. Each employee is dedicated to upholding the mission of protecting animal and human health through diagnostics. Congratulations to all of the 2017 Director’s Excellence Award winners.
