The Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) now offers a Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVD) Virus pooled ear notch test to assist with the screening and diagnosis of BVD in cattle. This test is unique because it uses two different testing methodologies to screen for the BVD virus.
Testing is performed via a real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) kit approved by the USDA to identify BVD-PI status. This test can screen pools of up to 24 animals as a single sample for the presence of BVD virus.
As an additional service to our clients, TVMDL will test all samples from a positive pool using antigen capture ELISA at no additional charge (normally $6.50 per sample). This confirmatory test uses Erns glycoprotein specific monoclonal antibodies that detect BVDV antigen in fresh tissues and is as sensitive as IHC in identifying persistenly infected animals.
TEST: Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVDV) pooled ear notch PCR
SPECIMEN: Ear notch. For pooling, individual samples must be collected and labeled with individual animal identification. The laboratory will pool the samples upon receipt.
PRICE: $30.00 for the first 10 samples on one accession, $2.50 for each additional sample on the same accession
TURNAROUND: Performed in Amarillo, Monday-Friday with results in 1-4 business days.
