Each year, the HR Employee and Organizational Development program at Texas A&M University conduct The Leadership Institute, a program designed for current employees to enhance leadership capabilities in their current role. In 2016, two Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) professionals graduated the program: Gabriel Gomez, DVM, PhD, ACVP and Holley Knight.
The six-week course was held in October and November 2016, Dr. Gomez and Ms. Knight participated in lectures and group activities focusing on leadership models, theories and behaviors, organizational culture, strategic planning, interpersonal effectiveness and strategic human resources.
“It was a great course that allowed me to network with leaders in other fields within the TAMU system,” said Dr. Gomez. “The information presented was very useful and applicable to some areas in the work performed at TVMDL. I feel that I have a better understanding of what leadership is and the many things that are necessary to make a good leader.”
“Being a new supervisor at TVMDL, the Leadership Institute has helped me developed several relevant skills for becoming an effective leader,” said Ms. Knight. “I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to participate in such a beneficial program.”
The program uses a variety of learning methods to encourage participant interaction, including speakers, discussion, quiet reflection and active participation. In order to graduate from the Leadership Institute, participants created and presented a project to demonstrate understanding and application of skills they gained.
Join us as we congratulate Dr. Gomez and Ms. Knight on their accomplishment. For information about the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory, visit tvmdl.tamu.edu.
